Vice President

Susanō Hideko Surface

Susanō Hideko Surface is an Executive Analyst on King County’s Continuous Improvement Team, supporting the Office of Economic Opportunity & Creative Economy.

Previously, Surface led cultural investment and public gallery initiatives at the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, coordinated capital project construction at the Seattle Office of Waterfront and Civic Projects, and directed the Seattle Design Festival. They were also an architectural designer at super-interesting! and an organizer with the Artist Studio Affordability Project.

Surface earned the M.Arch from Yale,  BFA in Integrated Design from Parsons, and Certificate in Commercial Real Estate from the University of Washington. Their academic roles included instructor of Professional Practice at Cornish College of the Arts, visiting critic at University of Washington College of Built Environments, and fellowships at Columbia GSAPP and Yale. They have served on the Seattle Arts Commission and the board of Architects, Designers and Planners for Social Responsibility.
