Susanō Hideko Surface

Susanō Hideko Surface is the Revenue, Innovation, Strategy, and Enhancement (R.I.S.E.) Division Officer of the City of Long Beach, CA. Surface manages City waterfront assets, generates new revenue, and drives the growth of music, entertainment, and tourism.

 

Previously, Surface served with the King County Executive Office of Performance, Strategy, and Budget, supporting the Office of Economic Opportunity & Creative Economy. Surface led cultural investment and public gallery initiatives at the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture, coordinated capital project construction at the Seattle Office of Waterfront and Civic Projects, and directed the Seattle Design Festival. They were also an architectural designer at super-interesting! and an organizer with the Artist Studio Affordability Project.

Surface earned the M.Arch from Yale, BFA in Integrated Design from Parsons School of Design, and Certificate in Commercial Real Estate from the University of Washington. Their academic roles included instructor of Professional Practice at Cornish College of the Arts, visiting critic at University of Washington College of Built Environments, and fellowships at Columbia GSAPP and Yale. They have served on the Seattle Arts Commission and the board of Architects, Designers and Planners for Social Responsibility.
